Drones: Guy who flew drone into firefighting aircraft pleads guilty
Dr. Peter Akemann, highly educated but incredibly stupid, has been sentenced to 14-days in prison, 30 days home detention, 150 hours of community service, and $146,000 in restitution to the LA Fire Dept and the owner of the aircraft that was damaged. From the media story, sounds like he may be under probation for 2 years as well.
He flew his RC drone into a restricted fire zone, beyond his visual line of sight, and eventually lost control of the drone. Everything he did was prohibited by FAA regulations.
He started the business that later created the Call of Duty video games. His own lawyers said his actions with the RC drone were “sheer stupidity”.
