The high temperature for the day when this occurred, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri in June of 2025, was 102 degrees F, which is not an unusual high temperature in the summer. The record high temperature for June is 107 degrees F.
This roadway surface buckled likely due to design or implementation/construction issues that did not provide sufficient expansion. Climate change was not a factor.
