Bernstein, JD “Hispanic” and “Latino” are not races but artifacts of the racial classification system used in the U.S. The side effects include white Spaniards classified as “Hispanic” or “Latino”, Brazilians classified as “Hispanic” even though they speak Portuguese, indigenous people of South America classified as “Latino”, while indigenous people of North America are classified as “Native Americas”. It is a broken system.
Consequently, this chart is probably more meaningless than helpful.
