This seems rather obvious. Unfortunately, Trump and his advisors are stuck with a mindset from 50 years ago – and think that widgets are made with lots of people assembling things. Not any more.
I believe tariffs are primarily a negotiating strategy – and many of the trade issues may be resolved in 1-3 months. But I have also noted this trade war could cause economic damage and might not play out the way many wish (i.e. trade negotiations). In fact, the U.S., while a large economic market, is not the only large economy in the today’s world – and other countries may enter into favorable trade relationships among themselves, reducing U.S. leverage.
