Tariffs enable inefficient US companies to remain inefficient by insulating them from competition. This is not how capitalism works. Paradoxically, Trump is simultaneously pushing for greater efficiency in government (which is, in fact, necessary).
Trump says tariffs “will create jobs like never before” … in the midst of a labor shortage, low unemployment and a decline in fertility rates well below a stable population. Make this make this make sense?
