Now that the virus has gone airborne, Osterholm believes we’re going to start seeing more and more cases in humans with no explanation for why they occurred. Meaning, people are going to get sick without even coming in contact with the infected animal.

Other than developing vaccines, what measures will do anything besides delaying the spread? If you wear a mask and don’t get sick today, you’ll likely get sick another day. If we kill off more herds and flocks, that “saves” that herd or flock (they are then all dead …) but since the bug exists in over 48 species already, it will just come back again in the future. At best, we have delayed but have ended nothing – but at least we killed lots of animals and spent tons of money to pay the ranchers and farmers whose animals were killed. But didn’t actually accomplish anything.
Pandemics of highly contagious diseases end through immunity (vaccines and/or natural immunity) or the virus mutates to a less virulent form.
