Bluesky has gained about 2.5 million new users in the past week, raising its total users to more than 16 million, it said on Thursday. It is among a slew of apps looking to replace the platform formerly known as Twitter after Musk’s takeover.

X has perhaps 600 million users, worldwide. Bluesky now has about 2% of the users of X and has a long way to go yet.
While 116,000 X accounts were de-activated after the election, according to Bluesky itself, X normally sees about 40,000 account de-activations each day. It’s fair to say that a small number of users have left X and gone to Bluesky.
Elite academics and journalists are abandoning X and going to Bluesky – which is well known for aggressive censorship. The elite favor censorship because they get to be the censors.
In addition to aggressive censorship, Bluesky is slapping labels on profile pages – saying the account has posts that qualify as “intolerance” and other things. Sounds like a real fun place for intelligent conversation and discourse. /not
