At least 20 colleges closed in 2024, and more are set to shut down after the current academic year, according to the latest tally by Implan, an economic software and analysis company.
Altogether, more than 40 colleges have closed since 2020, according to a separate report by Best Colleges.

The incoming youth cohort is actually shrinking – not enough students to fill all the college seats, especially for those with less prestige and high costs.
Note that for a long time, the percent of students applying to college has been going up. There are not more young people, but more young people who intend to go to college.
Simultaneously, many large employers and government employers say that they will no longer require a college degree for employment. Presidential candidate Harris has said she intends to remove many college degree requirements for Federal jobs.
