Nearly half of Americans say having a college degree is less important now than it was 20 years ago

The shrinking youth cohort, versus the recent past and the heyday of college growth. Look at the fertility rate (births) and advance forward by 20 years to see who was entering the job market and when. Today’s low fertility rate has produced a smaller new labor pool. We no longer need to use the college degree as a hiring filter as was done when the number of job applicants was very high.
