Weird – the median class size in Oregon schools is 18: State of Oregon: Blue Book – Public Education

That is according to Oregon’s own education office. They reported larger classes in 2018-2019: Oregon Class Size Report for the 2019-2020 School Year

Less than a year ago, the Oregonian reported that Oregon class sizes are at historic lows: Class sizes in Oregon are at or near historic lows, but for how long? – oregonlive.com – says “class sizes are tiny by historic standards”.

So, of course, Oregon’s U.S. Senator Merkley wants to reduce class sizes more: Merkley, colleagues try again, reintroduce legislation to spend $2 billion on reducing class sizes – KTVZ

People my age attended school with a minimum class size of 30 for most public-school classes and there were no teaching aids in the classrooms.

Update: Am guessing this is pushed by teachers’ unions. They know enrollments are going down, fairly quickly – which means school closures and fewer teachers required. From their perspective, we should strive for say, 15 students per class – which would keep surplus teachers on the payroll. We can afford that by Federal money printing, of course.
