Really – all homeschool parents should be mandated to undergo the same criminal and background checks of K-12 public school teachers. Home schooling should be regulated, and students must demonstrate proficiency annually.
Why is this even in Scientific American?
Let’s see – my son has a BS in materials science engineering and mechanical engineering, an MS in chemistry and a Ph.D. in chemistry and is a research scientist. His wife has degrees in political science and business, and a JD and is a practicing lawyer. Since Covid, they switched to a hybrid home schooling system that also works with local home-schooling support groups, and which enables sharing of leverage of other high skilled adults in the learning process (I think there is even a teacher involved!).
They seem so sketchy, don’t they? Better run criminal background checks and periodic testing – probably drug test home school parents too. We can never be too safe! /satire
