European aviation giant Lufthansa Group is to introduce a new “environmental cost surcharge” of up to €72 per flight to cover part of the cost of complying with new green regulatory rules for airlines.

At current exchange rates, that is about US$77 (exchange rate varies over time). The fee will vary depending on the flight.

As documented on this blog, proposals for aviation range from charging fees to banning all air travel from 2030-2050, destroying the entire world’s aviation industry, infrastructure including university training programs in aeronautical engineering, aviation maintenance and so on.

The most likely outcome is what Lufthansa is doing – gradually adding and increasing “fees” to the point that only the rich will be travelers.
