Hysteria is apparently derived from the Greek word for uterus, and evolved to mean: “an uncontrollable outburst of emotion or fear, often characterized by irrationality, laughter, weeping, etc.” unrelated to a uterus (“HYSTERIA Definition & Meaning | Dictionary.com“) but because of how the word originated, it is now considered a naughty word.
