That is an area about half the size of the state of Utah.

They would put solar PV arrays on an enormous area of land, which would require on-going maintenance, scarce water for periodic cleaning, plus replacement every 15-20 years, plus powerline infrastructure and not yet well understood battery backup storage systems.

Some think it would be better to site solar PV arrays on building rooftops and within cities instead of across wide land areas in the western U.S.
