She locked the comments so that only hypochondriacs she approves of, can post comments in support of her anxieties. Censorship is what journalists do, of course. Before blocking comments, she hid comments that were double wrong think. Again, because journalism is all about censorship (she works for NY Public Radio).

Background:

She attended an all-girl private boarding school, where she also did a foreign exchange program in Korea, then attended a private university. These are expensive programs (4 years at Chatham Hall, as a boarding student, and 4 years at Emerson College, in 2023-2024 unsubsidized combined costs of about one half million dollars) that led to a job (journalism) in a field whose average pay, per the BLS, is about US $50k/year. (Many more examples of this phenomena here: Media: Who Reports the News? – Social Panic (coldstreams.com))

4 out of 5 journalists have degrees in English, English Lit, Creative Writing, History, Art History, Political Science and journalism – and have no science background and no math background. Yet many of these reporters, with a BA in English Lit, have titles like Senior Science Reporter, Senior Climate Reporter, or even Senior Science Editor – yet have no formal training the field. Why is that a problem? Our formal training teaches “how to think”. A doctor learns to think like a doctor, a nurse learns to think like a nurse, a lawyer learns to think like a lawyer, an MBA learns to think like a business person, a construction manager learns to think like a construction manager, and so on. This is why in most places today we seek out diverse teams of people with diverse skills. But journalism is a monoculture of people trained to mostly think the same way – and very few know how to think like a scientist, an engineer, a nurse or most any of the subjects areas they report upon. The result is bloopers like the tweet above.

Also, as she is sufficiently terrified of air quality, and Covid, should she even be on an airplane, confined to a narrow metallic tube with hundreds of other people flying at 35,000 feet at 600+ mph?
