A UK government advertising standards agency has ruled that EVs cannot be marketed as “zero emission vehicles” as the claim does not account for emissions during manufacturing or when charging from the UK’s electrical grid (which uses fossil fuels).

Electric cars are not ‘zero emission’, says advertising watchdog (telegraph.co.uk)

I have an EV and so far, 100% of its charging has been from our own solar PV on our roof. However, when we take it on trip (which we have not yet done), it will be charged from the grid. Where I live, much of that source is hydropower, but that varies by location – for much of the country, most of the electricity still comes from fossil fuels.
