There is a reason much of the media industry is laying off many staff. From the social media posts of reporters about the layoffs, they seem not to understand the root problem: the media is not producing a product that anyone wants to buy.

They need to spend far more time listening and understanding customer needs and wants. Instead, reporters get defensive, focus inward, and view themselves as special – even blaming the customers! Just look at their Twitter comments.
