Massive Gas Outage Threatens Millions Of Americans’ Energy Supplies Amid Arctic Storm (msn.com)

Here in my state, NW Natural has asked residents to conserve gas supplies by lowering their thermostat. Right now it is 0 degrees F (-18 C) at my house, which is warmer than the -5 (-16 C) we had over night. We have no gas services at our home so we are, fortunately, not affected.

Puget Sound Energy and other utilities have asked customers to reduce power usage.

Same for the utility in Alberta, Canada.

And in Ellenburg, WA (where I once lived):

Regarding electricity, this is also due to near zero energy coming from renewable energy due to cloud cover and low winds. The NREL had modeled the switch to renewable energy and concluded there would always be energy available from nearby regions. However, in this Arctic blast, nearly the entire country is very cold.

Many utilities, including mine, have shut down fossil fuel power plants in recent years as they transition to solar and wind.

Meanwhile, the media blamed this Arctic cold and the PNW gas outage on global warming while allegedly the gas storage facility was shut down due to cold conditions.
