“In the near future, the world may need to resort to lockdowns again — this time to tackle a climate emergency.” Certainly, Mariana Mazzucato has a taste for striking words. In her latest column for Project Syndicate, Mazzucato argues that:

Shifting Arctic ice, raging wildfires in western US states and elsewhere, and methane leaks in the North Sea are all warning signs that we are approaching a tipping point on climate change when protecting the future of civilization will require dramatic interventions.

Mazzucato and “Climate Lockdowns” – Econlib

Born in Italy, she immigrated to the U.S. with her family at the age of 5. She has citizenship in 3 countries [1] and is an advisor to multiple governments around the world. She is a global technocratic elite who knows what is best for the rest of us – we can be assured that climate lockdowns or not, she will continue to travel the world.

She focuses her work on the idea that government run “public innovation” is essential (we need more government, run by the elite).

In this online video clip, speaking at the WEF, she says we tried to rally the world around Covid, and that didn’t work, and then we tried to rally the world around climate change, but climate is too complicated for people to get, so next we need to rally the world around the topic of “water”.

Ignoring the demonstrated failure of public health to accomplish anything beyond harm, she asserts, seemingly, that Covid is the model for climate change mitigation.

The implication is the WEF must assert “crisis” after crisis to generate sufficient fear that the public will turn over control to the elite, like herself, who know precisely what is best for each of us.

People pushing top-down, centralized, government by technocratic elite rule, are saying things are so bad, we must end democracy and put the elite in charge.

[1] She has citizenship in Italy, the U.S., and the U.K., which at 3 is about the total number of countries I have been to. There are people who have citizenship in more countries than I have been to. I did not travel until late in life, with an intent to start in 2020, but that was postponed to 2022 when I visited Europe for the first time. Unfortunately, many elite wish to eventually prohibit travel for the non-elite and this is a sensitive issue for me. I am studying world and country-specific history, business, economics, culture, art and two languages, but alas, I will never be able to achieve a fraction of the globally knowledgeable elite who demand they take charge.
