For 5 days of taking the drug, the list price is $1390.

The normal dosage is 2 tablets (plus 1 other drug) per day for 5 days, or 15 tablets total. Which brings the price to about $100 per tablet.

A couple of weeks ago, I met with an ophthalmologist for 5 minutes; no procedure was performed, it was just a quick look at the outside of my eye and a brief consultation (diagnosis of a wart on my eyelid, no treatment needed for now). The billed charge was $417, with an insurance contracted discount charge of $248. Because I have a worthless ACA policy ($1,500/month for 2 adults) with a $17,600 deductible, I pay the full $248.

When I had Covid, if I had been on Paxlovid (I was not), I would have had to pay what ever the insurance company’s contracted price was – probably $600 or more?

I’ve just spent 3 1/2 weeks trying to renew a common, generic drug through Walgreen’s. Finally gave up today and asked that my doctor’s office forward the prescription to RiteAid.

What a wonderful health care system we have.
