You don’t need Lithium battery tech for grid scale storage. Lithium used in vehicle batteries because of its charge, capacity and output characteristics, and because it is light weight compared to other chemistries.
But for grid-scale batteries, you generally have lots of land space to work with – and other battery technologies can be a better solution.
