Also, the current generation entering age 18-19 is smaller than the prior generation due to the decline in fertility rate in the U.S. The tight labor market means many young people can find good work without a college degree – and with private colleges (about 1/3d of college enrollment) costing about $80,000/year (without discount or subsidy programs), many do not see a good return on investment.
