Toy R Us filed bankruptcy in 2017 and liquidated everything in 2018. The bankruptcy was blamed on not being able to compete well with Amazon and having taken on too much debt. The other elephant in the room was lack of kids – family sizes have plummeted and the fertility rate, depending on who is reporting is between 16. and 1.8 now.
