Back in the 1980s, tech companies promoted something called “flex time” – meaning you could, allegedly, set your own start and end time each day. Come in late but then stay late.

The reality, though, was the meme – flex time meant you were free to choose when and where you put in your overtime.

How quickly we forget, as this report suggests a rise in weekend work hours is a new thing.
