Source: Alaska governor drops college degree requirement for most state jobs to fight worker shortage

Alaska becomes another state announcing an end to college degree requirements due to worker shortages. This trend is now growing – many corporations have also ended degree requirements.

When labor was in surplus due to the post WW 2 high fertility rates – creating labor surpluses in the late 70s into the early 90s, the college degree became a filter to filter out workers. It also conveniently kept potential workers out of the labor force for 4 to 6 years.

Now with the fertility rate having long since collapsed, everything is reversed. While college education is necessary in many fields, we also know that up to half of college graduates end up working at jobs that do not require college-level skills.

As documented on this blog, we are now seeing the announcement of public school closures and the earliest phases of college closures too.
