OpenAI works closely with Microsoft’s cloud service Azure. In July 2019, Microsoft backed OpenAI with $1 billion, and the investment made Microsoft the “exclusive” provider of cloud computing services to OpenAI. Microsoft said Monday that Azure will continue to serve as OpenAI’s exclusive provider.

This is huge. In the 19th century California Gold Rush, it is said that most of the miners made very little. But the support businesses that supplied the gold miners did very well.
With Microsoft being the back end for OpenAI – Microsoft becomes the support business for all those new tech startups building on top of OpenAI. This is huge.
