We are seeing many colleges and universities reporting a decline in enrollment. Some of this may be due to prior pandemic restrictions and economic impacts, as well as current labor shortages. The latter is related to the decline in the young cohort population, which also affects college enrollment.

As far as overall enrollment is concerned, the dip from last fall still tops 2020’s total — the university’s lowest over the past twelve years at 4,000 — but continues the trend of a gradual decline in enrollment.

My youngest daughter has a Masters in geochemistry from MSU-Bozeman. Consequently, this news report about an obscure college had some interest for me beyond the usual news about demographics!
