Two of the schools will be closed for a long time as repairs are undertaken.

The district blames the snow and ice on global warming. What really happened is first, a windstorm, knocked down trees into power lines, and then several days of freezing rain broke more trees. This left large areas without power.

“The storms last week were unexpected and unprecedented,” Garcia stated. “Moving forward, we are committed to working with our local, regional, and state governmental partners to prepare our schools to be more resilient in the face of the climate crisis. As an immediate step, we will provide consistent and transparent updates about our plans to reopen the affected schools.”

Portland schools were closed for a month last fall as teachers went on strike. This comes after about a year and a half of closures due to Oregon’s dystopian Covid policies. We have ruined the education of an entire generation.

Rather than fix long-standing problems and remove the asbestos from the buildings the ClimateCrisis has become the universal bogeyman on which to blame everything.
