The holiday is over – at least, it will be by 2050. Amid environmental catastrophes, ethical quandaries and economic turmoil, travel as we know it is “on the brink of extinction” – and if its trajectory continues, holidaymakers will be forced to embrace “virtual vacations” instead.

Only the elite will be permitted to travel in the near future. By private jet, of course. They can afford to purchase Climate Indulgences, and besides, they are more important than you.

Yet for ordinary folk, you will be mandated to monitor your carbon footprint in real time:

“By 2040, it will be unusual to see members of Generation Alpha without a carbon footprint tracker on their smartphones,” Intrepid muses. “Every Uber ride, plane journey and trip to the supermarket will be logged in their devices, noting their carbon footprint in real time.”

Other academics say we must ban all air travel starting in 2030 until at least 2050. By which time, there will no longer be any airlines, any skilled pilots, any aeronautical engineers, any university aeronautical engineering programs, and any aircraft manufacturers and airports will have been closed and mothballed. It would likely take 20-40 years to rebuild an air travel industry after that. The benefits of this destruction are not clear, but we should always Trust Sciencetm!
