Employers much more likely to hire someone less than 45 years old. After that, participation in the labor force begins to drop off sharply. According to an OECD report which looked at the issue in 8 countries, ageism is a real problem – particularly when the fertility rate in the OECD countries averages 1.58. That low rate means fewer new young workers, and fewer workers still trying to fund retirement benefit programs and services as the post WW 2 boom and the secondary boomlet age out of the work force.
