They initially denied they did this until confronted with the evidence:

…Gizmodo shared a screenshot of the College Board sending GPAs and SAT scores to TikTok using a pixel. The spokesperson then acknowledged that the College Board’s website actually does share data about the GPAs students report, along with the SAT ranges students use for searches.”

I am outspoken on this: standardized college entrance exam organizations need to be killed off.

  • The SAT was developed in the early 20th century to screen out racial minorities.
  • Scores correlate highly with household income and have little to do with predicting college success.
  • With colleges about to enter a famine of incoming students due to low fertility rates, numerous colleges have discontinued using SAT and ACT scores for admissions.
  • In 2018, the College Board was caught selling student data to online ad networks.
  • And here in 2023, they were caught basically doing the same thing – again – and lying as they denied doing what they were doing.

I was the victim of a GRE testing error in 1979/1980 that resulted in my making an incorrect decision not to apply to graduate school. In fact, my scores had been excellent, but The Educational Testing Service (ETS) made an error and did notify the students about the error. Instead, they notified the colleges to ignore the incorrect score – unaware that students would choose not to even apply because of the faulty reported scores. ETS eventually documented the problem in a footnote to the GRE exam brochure, years later.

I later earned an MBA (age 41) and an MS in software engineering (age 54). However, there is generally a negative ROI on a graduate degree earned after about age 30 to 35 (depends on subject) – due to fewer remaining work years. There were years of missed opportunities due to lack of a grad degree. At every job I held, I was told I was not eligible for various positions because I did not have a grad degree (yet my skills and track record were excellent). I’m glad I completed my two Masters degrees – even though I was aware of the negative ROI issue.

I have nothing polite to say about either ETS or The College Board and hope these organizations die off – the sooner the better. They and the people who work for them are garbage.
