Right on cue: increasing immigration could help solve labor crisis: economists (cnbc.com)

The standard solution is to import more workers from somewhere else. The problem is that 75% of the world’s population lives in countries with below replacement level fertility rates and dozens of countries have said they intend to import workers.

There are not going to be enough skilled workers willing to immigrate to all these countries. Some countries (including the U.S.) will be seen as desirable destinations, for now, and for those few countries, immigration will be an effective but temporary solution.

When this topic comes up, the media quote tenured, guaranteed jobs for life economists – who all favor immigration but who are themselves exempt from losing their own jobs due to immigration. This is a complex issue that receives superficial coverage.
