The first fire began on August 14th, 1933 but did not make a large advance.

Then, on August 24th, hot, dry winds began blowing – and in less than a day, 268,800 acres went up in flames.

Today, “Tillamook Burn” refers to 4 fires that took place from 1933 to 1951. Combined, the 4 fires burned through nearly 700,000 acres of the Tillamook coastal mountains.
