Microsoft retracts bizarre AI-generated article that recommended Ottawa Food Bank as a tourist attraction (msn.com)

Much, if not most, of the content on the Microsoft Start page is fluff from content mills, created by freelance writers (many overseas) and via generative AI. Much of it comes filtered through links to content mill blogs.

Microsoft has been using AI to generate its fake news and click-bait headline articles since 2020.

Microsoft says the error described above was due to a failure of human oversight. Regardless, the Start page contains a lot of trashy, tabloid-style, emotionally-laden click-bait friendly headline stories, often based on someone’s social media post and how the Internet reacted, or content from content-mill sites.
