1957: 6.5 million
1968: 5.3 million
2020: 4 million (official, probably undercounted, and will continue to rise)

The ’68 pandemic had less effect in the U.S., with worse outcomes in parts of Asia. The CDC estimates about 100,000 died in the U.S. then (which is probably something like 150,000 or more today when adjusted for population).
