- What vaccinations are required to visit your destination country? [1]
- Do you need a visa?
- How long can you stay?
- Is the country safe for travelers? What steps should you take to reduce risks?
- Do you need to buy medical insurance? Covid quarantine insurance? Evacuation insurance?
- Are you required to have a pre-paid return airline ticket before entry? (This is common)
- Do you need to have proof of financial resources to stay for your requested duration?
The U.S. Department of State maintains a helpful web site that can answer many of these questions, on a per country basis.

[1] Vaccinations – some vaccinations that may be required, such as yellow fever, may not be provided in all cities in the U.S. You may have to travel to where the vaccine is available, or perhaps it can be ordered in advance – be sure to plan ahead. Some vaccines, such as Hepatitis A and B, are a six month long sequence of 3 shots. You are not considered vaccinated until some time after the last shot. You may need to get vaccinations underway one half to a full year before your trip! Ask your doctor about travel vaccinations – she or he may refer you to a local public health agency or web site to learn more.
