Italy has had very generous right of descent citizenship but some court rulings tightened the eligibility. Some privileged Americans who sought dual Italian citizenship got caught in the midst of applying for right of descent citizenship.

About 60% of the US population is foreign born, has at least one parent who is foreign born, or has at least one grand parent who is foreign born. The majority of the US population has close immigrant ties. Contrary to media messaging, the US is not hostile to legal immigration.
It is estimated by several reports that 40+% of the U.S. population has immigration privileges to other countries due their close ancestral ties! That is astounding.
Being “international” has become a form of social currency that positions one within the social hierarchy. We have influencers telling us that foreign born are smarter and harder working. We have a media industrial complex that has gone all in on this messaging (even though it is not true). I know quite a few people who have dual citizenship due to ancestral ties. (My wife and kids – but not me – are eligible for citizenship in Canada as my wife’s Dad was from Canada.)
Those that do not have international backgrounds, global experience, or immigration privileges are seen as inferior, unfortunately.
