She entered the US on a valid student visa, and received a valid OPT visa at graduation (about 2 and 1/2 year visa). Married to an American for over a year, she was arrested by ICE when attending her requested Green Card application visa interview.
She is a Type 1 diabetic, was placed in an ICE detention facility and denied access to her insulin. She was unable to eat any food for 4 days – until they finally let her meet with a doctor. After 9 days, she was released by order of a Judge (after an ICE employee stole her credit cards). However, it then took months for ICE to return her passport to her.
Her story eventually made national news.
Why does ICE detain people who are trying to do all the right things and then deny life essential medical care?
