More of the hate America meme, this from a tenured professor:
Zeke Hernandez, a Wharton professor and author of “The Truth About Immigration: Why Successful Societies Welcome Newcomers,” says the low immigration and population growth numbers are “very concerning.”
“The whole problem is that immigrants were the recourse,” Hernandez told Straight Arrow News. “For decades, they’ve been making up for the talent, jobs, skills, consumption, and innovation that native born people cannot or will not provide.”
Low immigration numbers lead to slowing population growth in the US
Big update on this post appears in my newer post: The lack of academic research on self boot strapped American workers – Coldstreams Travel and Global Thinking
The professor is an immigrant from Uruguay, grew up in multiple countries, Would be nice if someone as brilliant as he is would study the group of people who did not have his privileges and do not have immigration privilege today, wouldn’t it? There is no indication he had to work since age 10 and pay for 100% of his own college education.
(Update – see my update – he’s far more open minded than how he came across on the news column, above.)
Many countries think they will deal with low fertility rates by importing skilled workers from abroad. It is not clear there are sufficient numbers of skilled workers willing to move to other countries, particularly when dozens of countries say they are adopting the same policy of bring in more immigrants.
