Greenpeace did a study claiming trains costs up to 30x more than airline flights – and on average, are typically 2x more expensive than airline flights. (They get those ratios, in part, by comparing apples with oranges – for example, comparing a 12 Euro Ryanair fare where you cannot have carry on bag or baggage to a train where you can take baggage. This is misleading but is what studies by activist groups do.)
They say airlines in Europe get excess tax breaks – and these tax breaks should be eliminated – and air travel should cost much more in the future, so that flights are only for the wealthy.
