The U.S. government will join the 21st century and support online passport renewal in 2023:
The shift will eliminate the need for piles of paperwork and hours waiting in lines. But it will still take some time to actually get your hands on your passport.

This caused me to check my passport expiration date. I just realized I held a passport in the 1980s but let it expire and did not get a new one until I was 48 years old. Wow.
That is how out of touch I am when it comes to all things international and why I am now working to catch up!
In the mid-1990s, there was a brief time when my employer considered sending a group of us to speak at an international tech conference. The employer eventually decided to send a few managers to give all the talks, to save a lot of money. It occurred to me I probably did not have a valid passport at the time- and was likely the only person in the entire division lacking a passport. Geesh.
As I have said in many posts here, today I believe everyone should seek international experiences in life as soon as able. This is the 21st century. Don’t be like me. Don’t wait for a future that may never come.
