Should mention – Jeg har studert norsk siden midten av 2021
or – I have been studying the Norwegian language since mid 2021, for family history and family heritage reasons, and that I like the language. It is fun to now watch Norwegian television shows and movies, in Norwegian, via Netflix, including Ragnarok, Troll, Home for Christmas and more. Really enjoying these, a lot!
Some would say, why study Norwegian? A majority of Norwegians speak English. Iff I have a chance to visit the country, most everyone will speak English. Well … besides just enjoying the language and learning, Norwegian Bokmal has similarities to Danish and Swedish, and some overlap with Icelandic. At a minimum I can generally read much, including signs, in Danish, Swedish and often Icelandic, which will be helpful if I do ever get to visit those countries. But mostly, it’s a lot of fun!
Based on multiple genetic DNA analyses, I am genetically half Scandanavian, about 40% Swiss/German, and the remainder English from near London. My Mom’s mother was Norwegian, and my Dad’s mother was Swiss/German.
