Social: Why I gave up on the X Platform
The level of idiocy on X is off scale.
$140,000 Per Year is a Poverty Level Salary
Last fall, we had the “$140,000/year salary is poverty level income in the United States” take over X.
Fortune ran a story citing a survey that found 40% of those earning $500,000 per year are living “paycheck to paycheck”.
Idiots took these claims seriously.
Voter ID – Few People Know that 3/4ths of US States already have Voter ID Requirements
We had the posts about voter ID – see What countries have voter identification requirements? – Social Panic – most did not know that half of US states already have photo ID required to vote, about 1/4th accept alternative ID, and one fourth have no identification requirements. Up to 95% of the world’s population lives in countries requiring voter identification. But the posts on X told us that voter ID would result in college students unable to vote, women who changed their name (but not men?) in marriage would not be able to vote – and lot of other nonsense that was not true. Few people were interested in the facts – hence, why I published the above blog post – which is now the most popular post on this blog.
Gen Z Must Spend $28/day on Lunch, alone
By spring time, we had the “Gen Z must spend $28 per day on lunch” nonsense – making your own lunch is eating prison food and living like a peasant, they said. And oh, we should be able to buy a modern 2400 sq ft home for the price of a 1200 sq ft home in 1960!
Low Fertility Rate is Not a Problem – Moms will have kids when in their 40s
X went down a deep dive on the fertility rate collapse with a remarkable number of people saying it’s not a problem, families will just have kids later – and at one point claiming more people would have kids when over age 40!
Reality check
Age of parent when child is born in the United States
- Under age 20: 3.9%
- Ages 20–29: 44.6%
- Ages 30–39: 47.4%
- Age 40 and older: 4.1%
96% of children are born to mother’s under the age of 40. Those are facts. There are many reasons for this. For the majority of mothers giving birth at age 40 or older, these are not first time births – they already have other kids. By age 45, there are almost no first time births.
The claims that mothers are just delaying births until age 40+/- is nonsense, not supported by data or the real world reality of having babies in one’s 40s. But no amount of facts and logic could persuade anyone to adopt reality.
Today Is Worse than The Great Depression Meme
On social media, some Gen Z claim that today is worse than the Great Depression and those who lived through The Great Depression had it easy! I am not kidding!
Level of Idiocy Is High
It was disheartening to see how many people lack understanding of history, reality, or how to verify their own assumptions – which is easy to do today. When presented with facts, presented politely, many double down on their nonsensical claims.
Basically, we are a nation of idiots.
That is perhaps the most disturbing thing I learned on X – the number of idiots is huge!
The nonsense went on from there … how and why did I get caught up in this giant waste of time?
Being Nice Got Me In Trouble
The final straw was someone posting about physicians and nurse practitioners. I thought I was being nice by giving an example of two cases where NPs had helped us. I was being NICE.
I was attacked by an MD – who knew nothing about the cases – saying both NPs were incompetent (they were not) – and therefore, I was an idiot for saying something NICE about their having solved a couple of serious health problems. (In one of those, my wife was urgently sent to the local ER and hospitalized overnight, due to a life threatening issue.)
Another health care person piled on, saying more nasty things – all because I said something nice about 2 people.
Obviously, these two health care practitioners have a deep hatred of nurse practitioners. Being NICE branded me an idiot deserving of a public flogging.
I encountered numerous people who insist real world data is wrong – and their absurd ideas are the truth! No amount of data, facts or logic can correct their errors – X is a platform for the frictionless spread of misinformation and propaganda nonsense posted by a nation of idiots, bots and foreign propaganda operations.
Today I deleted almost all of my posts made since last November. Will delete more another day.
I have made my account “Private”.
Am in process of deleting Replies as well – I might need to subscribe to a 3rd party API service to do that – X has no bulk deletion or editing tools.
In the past month, I spent too much time on X due to sitting a lot – because of a hip injury.
I regret having wasted so much time on X.
I’ll keep the account so I can follow some topics like economics, finance and hobbies.
But I’m done posting or replying to others. X is a giant waste of time
