As noted on this blog, unless you have immigration privilege most Americans can not readily move to another country:
- Young, well educated, attractive female who obtains residency via marriage (90% of those in the marriage visa category in over 300 news stories reviewed)
- You have prior dual citizenship or recent ancestry connections in one of the countries that provides residency/citizenship via descent
- You have a lot of money to invest in a business
Now, many countries are closing or reducing options (2) and (3). Malta’s citizenship via investment has been banned by the EU. Italy has reduced the “look back” period for ancestry to qualify for citizenship, for those with Italian ancestry. Portugal and Spain have put in place new limits on access via investment.
As these migration doors close, some of the few Americans who wanted to do this, accelerated their applications in recent months – to get in before access is cut off.

Oddly, with the decline in fertility rate, the future will need more immigrants, not fewer. Everything is turning upside down right now.
