Hawaii will raise visitor taxes to tackle climate change
“They estimate the tax increases would bring in between $85 million and $100 million a year to be dedicated to “mitigation and adaptation to address the climate emergency.”
Officially they do not know what they are going to spend the money on! Which is why this is a slush fund, financed by people who can’t vote in Hawaii, to squander money on most anything the politicians want by claiming “it’s for the climate” (and will have zero, as in absolute zero, impact on the climate).
Looks like the new climate slush fund tax is now live: https://www.newsweek.com/hawaii-tourist-tax-hotel-room-cruise-ship-josh-green-2078471
