Up to 22% of those polled say they will leave the U.S. if Trump is elected.
Update: Another report says up to 34%! 34% of Americans say they want to move abroad – Coldstreams Travel and Global Thinking
Stated another way, at 20% that would be 67 million Americans say they will leave – if that happens, housing will be really, really cheap in 2025!!!!
Reality is, of course, most people in the U.S. – except those with immigration privilege – have little chance of leaving the U.S.
Proponents are like this entitled individual, with immigration privilege:
“She says that everyone she knows who could get a second citizenship by marriage or ancestry did. Poland, Ireland, Italy, and other countries allow “citizenship-by-descent” programs, if your documentation meets their specifications. She hoped to apply through Poland’s program but didn’t have enough documentation. So she went a different route.
She has now obtained a so-called Golden Visa to Portugal, which required her to invest $200,000 in the country (through, essentially, a managed mutual fund). Under the regulations when she applied, she says, she only has to spend two weeks in the country every two years. After five years, she can apply for citizenship, as long as she has learned Portuguese. Obtaining this passport, she notes, “is a long-term back-up and retirement plan for me.” She plans to continue living in the United States for the time being, unless the political situation becomes untenable.”
Thinking of leaving the country if Trump wins? There’s a market for that. (msn.com)
Unless you have an immigration privilege, you will not be leaving. In 2024, the Portugal visa now costs 250,000 Euros to 500,000 Euros depending on the type of investment and the location of the investment.
Based on the data and stories here is what you need to emigrate
- Have a pre-existing dual citizenship
- Have a right of descent ancestry that entitles you to residency or citizenship in another country
- Be an attractive young woman (90% of the marriage category) and marry a foreigner
- Be young and have the right work skills (typically STEM or health care)
- Be wealthy and buy an investment residency visa in another country.
That’s it. If you are not on that list, you can’t move.
