The media is in love with the idea that Americans may move most anywhere in the world where they would like to live. The reality, as detailed on this blog, is that this is not true.
Business Insider runs non-stop stories falsely implying Americans can move abroad. 2/3ds of the subjects of the 150+ stories I reviewed were primarily young women who married a foreigner, already had dual citizenship, or had a right of descent ancestry. If you are not in those groups, good luck!
This story – The Easiest Countries to Move to From the United States – Business Insider – contains the usual Business Insider nonsense, summarized here.
- Mexico – historically, it is fairly easy to move their temporarily and get an extended stay visa
- Ireland – IF you have Irish ancestry/relatives
- New Zealand/Australia – only if you are under 30 years of age
- Svalbard – an Arctic island, part of Norway, you need to find housing (generally impossible for most)
- Costa Rica – several possible visas
- Czech Republic – temporary digital nomad visa (temporary)
- South Korea – be a temporary English teacher (temporary)
- Montenegro – be really rich and buy property or a yacht (really)
Of those they list, just two are realistic – the rest are just nonsense. Business Insider is your number one source for nonsense!
