In addition to high nightly hotel prices, many throw in parking fees, Wi-Fi fees, “resort fees”. Plus Hawaii has tacked on its own taxes and surcharges – to the point that “fees” and taxes exceed the base price.

The State has been proposing and discussing adding visitor fees and other charges, too – primarily with a goal of doing something about “too many tourists”.
