Business Insider has tons of stories about “ordinary Americans” moving overseas (See Part 1 and Part 2 of the Myth series, in the right column) – they falsely present the idea that any American can easily move to another country – while neglecting to note that the majority of those featured in their stories obtained visas through marriage, or already had dual-citizenship, or had a right of descent ancestry immigration privilege.
This story is different: I’m a boomer and will never be able to retire. At 62, I’m already using my Social Security money.
The author readily acknowledges having made poor financial decisions in her life – including using a retirement fund to, at one point, buy a home in Slovenia.
The story is typical of Insider – and most American media – find someone in distress or oppressed (or who thinks they are oppressed or a victim) and create a feature story about them. Unfortunately, this is the doomer media we have today which focuses on negativity, most of the time. It’s pretty crazy.
