Guggenheim raises admission price to $30/person – and says this is now the normal ticket price for major museums that have yet to recover from the public health enforced closures.
Says museums see this as “maximizing revenues from a smaller core of visitors” – and it is “worth the risk of limiting access” to “mostly wealthier patrons”. Might also be due to changing tourist preferences – and some museum experiences are no longer seen as a good value (and higher entrance fees will not help that).
This trend is going on everywhere – new travel fees, new tourist taxes, new environmental fees – and tourist officials saying they want fewer visitors who spend more money. We are on the way to create a travel caste system suited to the elite and well to do.
